In a world increasingly affected by climate change’s impacts, it is imperative to empower a generation of young leaders to face environmental and social challenges with determination and vision. The Young Leaders Forum on the United Nations 2030 Sustainability Goals is proposed as a crucial initiative to educate, inspire, and empower 1500 young people between 18 and 35 on the importance and implementation of these global goals.
Today’s youth face interconnected challenges impacting our current and future well-being. These challenges are closely linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global issues. Key issues include:
CLIMATE CRISIS
The climate crisis and environmental degradation threaten our health and quality of life, intensifying natural disasters, inequality, and poverty, and jeopardizing sustainable development.
EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT
The lack of access to quality education and decent job opportunities perpetuates inequality and poverty, maintaining high levels of unemployment and precariousness among young people.
MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health and emotional well-being are increasingly urgent due to high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression, exacerbated by social, economic, and academic pressures, with lack of access to services and stigma hindering the search for help.
TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION
Although they offer opportunities for youth participation and empowerment, they also present challenges related to privacy, security, and equitable access, exacerbated by the digital divide, artificial intelligence, and misinformation.
THE URGENCY FOR COLLECTVE ACTION
In light of this critical situation, it is essential that young people understand the magnitude of the challenges and are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to propose and implement effective solutions.
